Age, educational qualifications and experience must be satisfied as of the closing date. Relaxation is available according to Government of India rules.

Qualification and Experience

Deputy Secretary Master’s degree in a language with at least 55% marks, or an MBA/Master’s in Public Administration with at least 55%, plus seven years’ prescribed Level-10 administrative experience and experience organising literary or cultural activities.
Assistant Editor Postgraduate degree in a language or literature recognised by the Akademi; knowledge of English or Hindi and Indian languages; five years’ experience in copy-editing literary and scholarly manuscripts; basic computer knowledge.
Senior Library and Information Assistant Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, five years’ experience in a library of standing and good knowledge of library computer applications.
Junior Translation Officer Prescribed Hindi-English degree or postgraduate qualification, including an applicable translation diploma where required, plus three years’ literary translation experience in Central/State Government or an autonomous organisation.
Technical Assistant Graduate qualification, Diploma in Book Publishing, five years’ relevant printing or publishing experience, knowledge of book-production processes, Indian languages and computer applications.
Programme Assistant Recognised graduate qualification and five years’ experience in a literary, academic or government organisation or publishing house, with meeting-organisation, literary-material and computer skills.
Publication Assistant Graduate qualification with Diploma in Printing, or five years’ relevant printing or publishing experience, together with knowledge of printing, book publication and computer applications.
Proof Reader-cum-General Assistant Graduate qualification with Hindi or English as a subject, proficiency and proof-reading ability in Hindi or English, and basic computer knowledge.
Stenographer Grade II 10+2 qualification, shorthand speed of 80 words per minute, good English or Hindi typing speed and knowledge of computer applications.
Messenger-cum-Rider 10+2 qualification, valid two-wheeler/car driving licence, three years’ driving experience and knowledge of motor mechanics.
Van Driver Class 10 or 10+2 qualification, valid light- and heavy-vehicle driving licence, minor automobile-repair knowledge and three years’ driving experience.
Junior Clerk 10+2 qualification, computer knowledge and net typing speed of 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi.
Multi-Tasking Staff Class 10, 10+2 or ITI-equivalent qualification, multi-skilling ability and basic computer knowledge.

The fee must be paid by Demand Draft in favour of “Secretary, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.” A separate fee and application are required for every post applied for. Fees are non-refundable and non-adjustable.

Selection Process

  • Scrutiny and shortlisting of eligible applications.
  • Interview for Deputy Secretary and Assistant Editor.
  • Written examination for the remaining posts.
  • Qualifying stenography skill test for shortlisted Stenographer candidates.
  • Qualifying typing test for shortlisted Junior Clerk candidates.
  • Driving skill test for shortlisted Messenger-cum-Rider and Van Driver candidates.
  • Document and eligibility verification.

No travelling or daily allowance will be paid for attending the written test, skill test or interview.

Exam Pattern

Level 4 and Level 6 Written Tests

  • Part I: Objective examination carrying 50 marks.
  • General Studies/General Knowledge: 30 questions.
  • Hindi, English, Computer and Quantitative Aptitude: five questions each.
  • Part II: Post-specific descriptive examination carrying 50 marks.
  • Total: 100 marks and two hours.
  • No negative marking.

Level 1 and Level 2 Written Tests

  • Part I: Objective examination carrying 60 marks.
  • General Studies/General Knowledge: 40 questions.
  • Hindi Grammar, English Grammar, Computer and Quantitative Aptitude: five questions each.
  • Part II: Descriptive examination carrying 40 marks.
  • Total: 100 marks and two hours.
  • No negative marking.

Documents Required

  • Completed and signed prescribed application form.
  • Recent self-attested passport-size photograph.
  • Self-attested proof of date of birth.
  • Educational and professional qualification certificates and marksheets.
  • Experience certificates supporting every claimed period.
  • Computer, printing, publishing, translation or library qualification records, as applicable.
  • Valid driving licence for driver posts.
  • SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, PwD or Ex-Servicemen certificate, as applicable.
  • Demand Draft for the applicable application fee.
  • No-objection certificate for applicants employed by Government, autonomous bodies or PSUs.
  • Last five years’ APARs, integrity certificate and vigilance clearance where prescribed for senior serving candidates.
