About the HAL Defence Public Sector Chair

The HAL Defence Public Sector Chair was established in 2012 through an endowment corpus provided by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

The Chair supports teaching, research, training and policy dialogue in important areas of business law connected with the defence sector.

Contracts Management Research and teaching connected with commercial contracts and public-sector contracting.

Defence Procurement Legal and policy questions relating to procurement in the defence sector.

Dispute Settlement Dispute resolution, negotiations and related legal processes.

One unreserved vacancy will be filled at the Associate Professor or Assistant Professor level according to the selected candidate’s eligibility and the University’s decision.

Common Essential Qualification

Master’s Degree A Master’s degree with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade in a recognised point-scale grading system.

The prescribed qualification must have been obtained from a recognised university or institution.

Associate Professor Eligibility

• Good academic record with a Ph.D. degree in the concerned, allied or relevant discipline.
• At least eight years of teaching and/or research experience in an academic or research position equivalent to Assistant Professor.
• The experience may be in a university, college, accredited research institution or industry.
• A minimum of seven publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• A total research score of 75 according to the criteria prescribed in the UGC Regulations, 2018.

Assistant Professor Eligibility Clarification

Notification No. 7/2026 lists Assistant Professor as a possible appointment level with Level 10 pay. However, the Appendix attached to the published notification separately reproduces only the Associate Professor eligibility conditions.

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Research and Policy Responsibilities

• Design and expand the research agenda of the HAL Chair.
• Publish research in academic journals, books and media platforms.
• Develop research proposals and grant applications.

• Develop training programmes in contracts, dispute resolution and negotiations with reference to the defence sector.
• Conceptualise and organise an annual conference on defence-sector laws.

Administrative Responsibility
