Educational Qualification

Essential qualifications

  • Matriculation or 10th-standard pass, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised board.
  • Certificate of Competency as Engine Driver from a recognised government institute or an equivalent certificate.

Desirable experience

  • Two years of service as Sarang on a vessel exceeding 400 Boat Horse Power.

Passing Class 10 alone is not sufficient. The prescribed Engine Driver Certificate of Competency is an essential qualification.

Application Fee and Postal Envelope

The official notification does not prescribe a separate examination or application fee.

Mandatory postal requirement: The application must include a separate blank self-addressed envelope bearing a pasted ₹50 postal stamp. Applications without this envelope will be rejected.

The skill or trade test is qualifying in nature. The final merit list will be prepared according to marks obtained in the written examination.

  • Self-attested valid photo identity proof.
  • Date-of-birth proof: Class 10 certificate or birth certificate.
  • Matriculation marksheet and certificate.
  • Self-attested Aadhaar card copy.
  • Latest valid EWS Income and Asset Certificate in the prescribed format.
  • Engine Driver Certificate of Competency.
  • No Objection Certificate for serving government employees, where applicable.
  • Two additional recent passport-size colour photographs.
  • Separate self-addressed blank envelope with a pasted ₹50 postal stamp.

Do not send original certificates with the application. Photocopies must be self-attested with the applicant’s name and date.

How to Apply Offline

Complete the application Fill the form clearly in English or Hindi without overwriting, cutting or supplying incorrect information.
Affix the photograph Attach a recent self-attested colour passport-size photograph in the prescribed space.
Attach self-attested documents Enclose the qualification, age, identity, EWS and Engine Driver competency documents listed in the notification.
Add the return envelope Enclose a separate blank envelope addressed to yourself with a ₹50 postal stamp pasted on it.
Write the envelope heading Superscribe “APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF ENGINE DRIVER – EWS” clearly in bold letters.
Send by ordinary post Post the completed application only through ordinary post to the official regional headquarters address.
Meet the deadline Ensure that the application reaches the Coast Guard office no later than 11 August 2026.
