Drone Pilot Certification (RPC)

Legal Requirements for 2026

📋 Why is an RPC Mandatory?

Under the UAS Rules 2021, operating a drone in India requires formal certification if you fall into any of the following categories:

  • Weight-Based: Flying any drone heavier than 2 kg.
  • Operation-Based: Any commercial drone operation, regardless of weight.
  • Beyond Nano: All Micro, Small, Medium, and Large category drones require a valid RPC for non-recreational use.

🚀 How to Get Certified

  1. Enroll: Join a DGCA-approved Remote Pilot Training Organization (RPTO).
  2. Train: Complete the mandatory ground school (theory) and simulator/practical flying hours.
  3. Assess: Pass the DGCA theory exam and the practical flight assessment conducted by your RPTO.
  4. Apply: Submit your training certificates and medical fitness record on the Digital Sky Platform.

Note: Flying without a valid RPC can lead to penalties up to ₹25,000 or more under current UAS regulations.
