Eligibility Criteria

Deputy Secretary

• Officers under the Central Government holding analogous post on regular basis in the parent cadre or department; or
• Officers with 5 years service in the grade rendered after appointment on regular basis in PB-3 Rs.15600-39100 with Grade Pay Rs.6600 / Pay Level 11 or equivalent.

Under Secretary

• Officers under the Central Government holding analogous post on regular basis in the parent cadre or department; or
• Officers with 5 years service in PB-3 Rs.15600-39100 with Grade Pay Rs.5400 / Pay Level 10 or equivalent; or
• Officers with 6 years service in PB-3 Rs.15600-39100 with Grade Pay Rs.4800 / Pay Level 8 or equivalent.

As a one-time measure, the Ministry of Education has relaxed qualifying service / experience by two years for both Deputy Secretary and Under Secretary posts.

Experience Requirement

Officers holding analogous posts in any cadre or department may also be considered for appointment on deputation, subject to the condition that they possess experience of working with quasi-judicial bodies.

Period of Deputation

The period of deputation, including the period of deputation in another ex-cadre post held immediately preceding this appointment in another organization or department of the Central Government, shall ordinarily not exceed 5 years.
